Chapter Twenty

My body was buzzing. I’d never felt anything as unique and erotic as what happened this morning. I hadn’t realized just what I was missing out on. Now that I did, I was not stopped from repeating it. I felt like a huge weight had lifted from me. My smiles came easier, and I was relaxed.

“Good morning, guys,” Saorise said as she entered the kitchen. “Ceana will no doubt be doing her chores; I’m assuming you realize that, seeing as Peadrus isn’t here.”

“We saw her in the chicken coup, so Peadrus offered to help her. We came in to see what we could help you with.” I smiled.

Saorise’s eyes widened. “You want to help with chores?”

Darragh and I looked at each other before turning back to Saorise. “Of course, chores and jobs should be equal.”

“Holy shit,” Saorise whispered. “She won the jackpot being born wulver.” I saw the fleeting sadness on her face.

“You realize that if Ceana chooses to mate with us, that makes you family too. You might not be wulver, but you are still packed and family. No matter where we end up, whether we stay here or go somewhere else, you are included in our pack.”

Saorise frowned. “You said that yesterday, but won’t that be kind of weird to have your mate’s little sister hanging around?”

I shook my head. “Not at all. Wulver packs are stronger than families. Many of us aren’t blood-related because we have come from different packs to join a new one or are the children of those that joined the new pack. But it’s a stronger bond than a family. A family might have a falling out and not speak to each other, but that doesn’t happen in wulver packs. We have, I guess, unwritten rules about never going to bed angry. We recognize that we will have issues, that is normal, but the issues are always sorted out.”

“That sounds like some kind of utopia. Does it really work?”

“I can’t speak for other packs, but I can for the Saxby Pack, and it works. Darragh’s parents are the head alpha and omega. They are the ones that have the final say; if a wulver needs punishment or discipline, they are the ones that have that last word. But the pack, I guess, runs more like a committee. Frangan and Beitidh are the CEOs.”

“You said that wulvers are matriarchal. Does that mean if Darragh’s mam didn’t agree with his Papa's decision, she would overrule him?”

Darragh chuckled. “Yep. It hasn’t happened often. But Mam’s decision is the final decision.”

“So, tell me about how you live? I get that you are a pack; you said about twenty. Do they all make up separate family units, or do the head alpha and omega raise all the children too?”

I smiled at Saorise; this girl was inquisitive, but I could also tell she was wickedly intelligent. I liked her. “The pack is the big family, a bit like a family of grandparents, aunts, and uncles. The only difference is that we aren’t all biologically related.
